Beautiful Maine State Seal Staff Officer's Coat Button

Product Description

This is another nice button from the large Civil War collection I am currently working on it is a Civil War Maine State Seal Staff Officer's coat button. It's got at least 95% of the gold gilt remaining, and likely closer to 100%. Device is the Maine coat of arms, with the motto, "Dirigo" at the top, with a star above that, and the word "Maine" at the bottom. The state motto of Maine is "Dirigo" (Latin for "I Direct," or "I Lead"). The Latin motto appears on Maine's coat of arms, which is featured on both the state seal and state flag.

The backmark is a correct Civil War period, "Scovill M G CO / Waterbury" and is 22mm. It has a nice tight upright shank. This is Albert’s ME1, and Tice's ME200a1. This is another button which would be almost impossible to upgrade, a beautiful example.
