Beautiful Confederate South Carolina button

Product Description

This is another great non-dug Confederate button being offered, it is a South Carolina coat-size button depicting the state seal - a palmetto tree, intended for troops of South Carolina. Around the edge of the button in Latin is "Animis Opibusque Parati" (Prepared in Mind and Resources).

The backmark is "W.G. Mintzer / PhilD". William G Mintzer of Philadelphia sold buttons to both the north and south before the war and continued after the war until approximately 1869. Steele & Johnson are believed to have been the actual producer.

This is a beautiful button with most of the original gilt still present. There are no pushes and the shank is very solid. It would be hard to upgrade this example.
