Two bullets from West Woods, Antietam (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

Here is another nice item being offered, it is two fired rounds balls (or case shot) which were once part of the Wentworth Military Academy collection. Items from this collection were carefully identified with find locations and dates. These relics were found in the West Woods on the Antietam Battlefield in April, 1955 (see map location).

During the morning of September 17, 1862, the West Woods was the scene of some of the opening fighting of the Battle of Antietam and some of the heaviest fighting of the entire war. Around 9:30 a.m., General Edwin Sumner's Union Second Corps advanced into the West Woods. The combined firepower of Confederate artillery and attacking infantry drove them back. Union General John Sedgwick's division lost more than 2,200 men in less than 30 minutes in their ill-fated charges against General Stonewall Jackson’s troops.

These relics come from one of the most historic areas of the Civil War. They come in the glass top display case pictured.
