Confederate $20.00 bill
Confederate $20.00 bill
Confederate $20.00 bill (T303). It is a COC (Cut out Cancelled) note and is dated April, 1863 with a hand written number of “184559”. It has the Tennessee State Capital at Nashville in center and Alexander Stephens, vice president of the CSA on the right and has a Blue Reverse. Many CSA notes have been cut-cancelled or cut-out-cancelled to indicate that they were paid and collected by the government. This is different than damage or repairs because it was intentional. These notes, especially clean cut-cancels as this one is, are attractive and desirable in their own right. It is in very nice condition, no creases or tears and the colors still remain vibrant….very little fading. This is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of Confederate history.

Cribbage Board
Cribbage Board
Civil War era Cribbage Board. It measures 10" x 2" and is made of walnut with inlaid ivory and ebony sections. It has four brass feet and a small sliding compartment on the bottom which holds two steel pegs. Cribbage is a game of cards played with the aide of a Cribbage Board. It comes from 17th century England where it is thought to have been invented by a poet. Sir John Suckling is believed to have made an adaptation of an older game called “Noddy” about which next to nothing is known in modern days. Cribbage was popular in the New England states where the pilgrims first brought it over from England. It was also the favorite card game of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Franklin. Many Union soldiers from the northern states brought these games along with them or had them sent by their families. There are similar examples of cribbage boards in The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord. This board shows signs of use, but remains in beautiful condition. It would make a great addition to a display of a Civil War soldiers personal effects.
