Section of pewter spoon recovered near Burnside Bridge, Antietam. Click photo and "Detailed Description".
Civil War soldiers pewter spoon. It is the bowl of the spoon and it is flattened and measures approximately 3” x 2”. This unique piece was found on private property on the Antietam Battlefield. It was recovered in the 1980’s on a farm along the Confederate right flank – an area with heavy fighting when Union troops crossed the Burnside Bridge (see pictures).
These personal items are becoming very difficult to find and one with provenance to the area of the Burnside Bridge is highly desirable. It has a great patina to the pewter and remains very solid. The glass top display case pictured is included.
