Original "Harper's Weekly" with historic date of "Dec. 13, 1862". Click photo and "Detailed Description". (SOLD)
This is a rare original copy of Harper’s Weekly, dated December 13, 1862 – the day of the Battle of Fredericksburg. The front cover has General Burnside along with his Army of the Potomac commanders. At the printing, the country was still unaware of the fierce battle which would take place on the same day. It does go on about General Burnside’s movements on his way to Fredericksburg. There are some great wood-cut illustrations showing a Union camp in Long Island, Petersburg, Virginia, Fredericksburg, etc.
There are advertisements for the upcoming Christmas holiday with ideas for gifts….much like today. An unusual ad is for roller skates and ice skates – along with your typical “snake oil” cure all’s. This is a very desirable newspaper having the historic date along with a picture of the commander of the battle on the cover. The newspaper is complete and in pretty good condition for its age.
