Very Rare! Pair of Federal issue marked drumsticks. Click photo and "Detailed Description". (SOLD)
This is an extremely rare item that has been in my private collection for over 20 years. They are a pair of Federal-issue drum sticks. They are made of rosewood and each measures 17" long. On the butt end of each stick is marked with "U.S.". It is faint, but definitely there and no problem seeing the marks. Period drum sticks by themselves are rare, but a Union-issue pair are just about impossible to find....these are the only examples I have come across in over twenty years. There is a pair of these type of drum sticks in a period photograph of Drummer David Auld of the 43rd Ohio Infantry (see pictures). There are also a pair in the Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum (see pictures). These sticks are in absolutely beautiful condition and it would be almost impossible to find another marked pair.
