This is an original signature of Union General George Washington Getty. It is signed as "Geo. W. Getty Bvt Maj Genl, US Vols". He was a hard fighting career soldier from the Mexican War until 1883. He was severely wounded at the Wilderness and made the initial break through at Petersburg on April 2, 1865. A very nice piece.
