This is a great piece which has been in my collection for over 20 years. It is a large brass key, measuring approximately 5” long. This piece was dug in the Dalton, Georgia area in the 1970’s. There is a near identical example of this key in Civil War Artifacts – A Guide for the Historian, by Howard Crouch (see pictures). This is a great piece with a beautiful aged patina to the brass.
