Original US Army Regulations of 1861, Professionally Restored.
This is a professionally restored copy of the “United States Army Regulations of 1861”. The title page states “Revised / United States / Army Regulations. / of / 1861.” It also states “Changes and Laws Affecting Army Regulations and Articles of War to June 25, 1863”. On the bottom is “Washington: / Government Printing Office. / 1863”.
This book was truly the “bible” of just about any regulation or situation during the Civil War; just about every officer would have one available. It measures approximately 6” x 9” x 2”. When I acquired this copy many years ago, the covers were in terrible condition but the interior was great. I knew an elderly gentleman who restored antique bibles his whole life and graciously took on the project of restoring this book. The original covers were in too bad of a condition to save, so he redid them in beautiful red Moroccan leather, and added a matching sleeve.
The book has an invaluable full index which made it ideal for the officer. With the new restoration, it is now in fantastic condition and complete. It is actually in a condition where it could be referred to for every day use. I often thought it would make a great gift or presentation piece for an American history scholar or a reenactor who portrays an officer or First Sergeant.
Take advantage to acquire it for yourself or that special person who would truly appreciate the quality. In this book were some pencil drawings or tracings, which I have included.
