Group of relics from the Bentonville, NC Battlefield. Click photo and "Detailed Description". (SOLD)
Battlefield recovered relics. There is a small brass case which probably held matches or needles which has a faint engraved name on it in script. It is difficult to make out, but the first name is Marion or maybe Mario....maybe with some persistence it can be identified (see close up photo). There is also a coat-size Eagle button, three bullets, and a heavy brass buckle. These relics were recovered in the 1990's at the Bentonville, North Carolina Battlefield.
The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union army of Gen. William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865. This grouping has been in my collection since they were recovered. All of these relics are in nice condition, and the glass top display case is included. (SOLD)
