Brass Butt Plate from a Confederate musket. Click "Detailed Description".
Butt Plate from a Civil War musket. It is made of heavy brass and measures approximately 5” x 1 7/8”. There is a faint marking done by the digger on the inside of the plate. It reads in part “(Wooley’s…….) and “Jan. 1987”. Also there is a marking which is probably an inspector “A.W.”. The digger felt that this was from a Confederate musket, or from a musket imported by the Confederacy.
It was recovered in 1987 in the area of the site of “Wooley’s Bridge”, near the Wooley Plantation, which is located in Bartow County, Georgia. This unique piece has been in my collection for many years and is in very nice condition.
