Solid brass with a diameter of 2 1/2" and still has the strap hook on the back. This rosette was recovered on private property at the Cedar Creek Battlefield in Virginia. At dawn, October 19, 1864, the Confederate Army of the Valley under General Jubal A. Early, surprised the Federal army at Cedar Creek and routed the VIII and XIX Corps. General Philip Sheridan arrived from Winchester to rally his troops, and, in the afternoon, launched a crushing counterattack, which recovered the battlefield. Sheridans victory at Cedar Creek broke the back of the Confederate army in the Shenandoah Valley. These plain type of rosettes are often associated with Confederate use. It has a beautiful aged patina and comes with the glass-top display case.
