Civil War era eyeglasses complete with its original case. This style is often referred to as the “Pince-Nez” design. They date to before the introduction of nose pads but the wearer added a unique alteration by adding what appears to be as a thin type cord or thread to the bridge. They have oval lenses and the frame appears to be either brass or gold. These types of glasses were designed only for reading. During the Civil War, although most soldiers were young men, there were still many who needed glasses. Both the glasses and case are in good condition, there is a slight separation on one side of the nose bridge, but not noticed when displayed.
