"RARE" Civil War Surgeon's Tourniquet buckle and bullet. Click on picture for price and details. (SOLD)
Civil War Tourniquet buckle and bullet. The iron buckle measures 2 1/4" x 2". I acquired it directly from the digger, who recovered it on private property at a field hospital site in Fredericksburg, Virginia. What is truly interesting is that after he dug the buckle, his metal detector still put out a signal and about 12" - 14" away, he recovered this bullet with the teeth marks. There was always some speculation in regards to "Pain Bullets", but this really is more then a coincidence. This tourniquet is the Lambert Model, which was patented January 7, 1862 and was used throughout the war. There are examples in Pictorial Encyclopedia of Civil War Medical Instruments and Equipment, by Dr. Gordon Dammann and in Civil War Artifacts - A Guide for the Historian, by Howard Crouch. (SOLD)
