Civil War empty gunpowder tin. Click photograph and "Detailed Description". (ON HOLD)
Civil War era empty gunpowder tin. It measures 3 1/4” x 2 3/4” x 1 1/4” and is made of jappaned tin with a flat bottom and has a cork in the top. In the early part of the war, especially with Confederate troops, many muskets and pistols were brought from home, with all kinds of different calibers; this in turn required the soldier to make his own ammunition. This smaller size tin is in very nice condition, only showing minor wear. In The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord, there are similar examples of this tin (see pictures). (ON HOLD)
