Civil War Cartridge Box Tin. It measures 5" x 3" x 2 1/4". These tins were inside the soldiers cartridge boxes and held their prepared cartridges. This example was an early recovery on private property at the Cold Harbor, Virginia Battlefield. This was a devastating loss for the Union, with 13,000 casualties compared to the 2,500 suffered by the Confederates. This tin is in very solid condition and is marked on the bottom with "9" and "Cold Harbor". Ex-piece from Sydney Kerksis collection.
