Rare Civil War era Parade Torch (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is another interesting piece being offered, it is a Civil War era Tin Parade Torch, circa early to mid-1800s.They were used for political rallies, holiday parades and military purposes. The tin fuel container has a diameter of 3 ¾” and is 6” high to the top of the wick holder. A swivel bale wire handle is attached to the 14” wooden staff.

I have also seen these with longer wooden staffs, but I think the shorter staff would have been used by the military being that it was less cumbersome during night marches. I have a similar example pictured in my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, (see pictures). There is also one in a period photograph (see pictures).
