Published! Loaded Boot Pistol found at Stones River Battlefield

$225.00

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is an excavated barrel from a Civil War Boot Pistol. Overall it measures 4 ½” long. In the barrel fired lead ball. It was recovered from the Stones River area by Anthony Skok ("Rutherford County Boys"). It is published in the North South Trader's Civil War magazine, Volume 40, No. 2 / 2017 (see pictures).

The Battle of Murfreesboro (Stones River) was fought from December 31, 1862, to January 2, 1863, in Middle Tennessee, as the culmination of the Stones River Campaign in the Western Theater. Of the major battles of the Civil War, Stones River had the highest percentage of casualties on both sides. Although the battle itself was inconclusive, the Union Army's repulse of two Confederate attacks and the subsequent Confederate withdrawal were a much-needed boost to Union morale after the defeat at the Battle of Fredericksburg, and it dashed Confederate aspirations for control of Middle Tennessee.

These small pistols were often carried by soldiers and thought of as a last line of defense if attacked. There are similar examples in "Civil War Relics - A Guide for the Historian", by Crouch (see pictures). They were small enough to tuck away in their pocket. This is a great opportunity to purchase a great piece of history and one that has been published.
