Product Description

Even though this is close to relic condition, it is a great displaying Civil War leather percussion cap box which would have been carried by the soldier to carry the brass percussion caps for his musket, pistol or carbine. One of the original belt loops is still present. The outer flap of the box is marked with “NEWARK N.J.” – there was probably a name above it but has worn away. The original brass finial is also still present.

Which is truly unique about this piece is that the outer flap has been reconnected by sewing a small piece of leather. I find it hard to believe that the Union would bother with such a repair – accoutrements such as this were plentiful. Most likely it was picked up on the battlefield to be reused by the Confederacy. Anyway, an interesting piece at a great price.
