Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is a hand-made cased Domino set, typical of what would be used by the Civil War soldier. It has a sliding-top with a notch to open and a dove tail box, which measures 5 1/2" x 2" x 2". Inside are 15 hand carved wooden dominos. Next to playing cards, dominos were the most popular game played by Civil War soldiers. Evidence of this can be seen in the finding of dominos left in camps and other Civil War sites.

In my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I go into more details about the games played by soldiers (see pictures). There are also examples in The Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum with a set of handmade dominos that are very similar to the ones being offered here (see pictures). This is a great little set and would go nice in a display of a soldier’s personal items.
