Gettysburg cane, made from wood at Meade's Headquarters (SOLD)

Out of Stock

$0.00

Product Description

This is another great piece being offered, it is a hand-made cane from Gettysburg. It stands 35" tall and is marked on four lines with "Gettysburg / July 1-2-3, 1863 / Wood From / Meade's Headquarters". After the war, and as veterans began to visit Gettysburg, they were looking for souvenirs to return home with. One of the most popular items were these canes which were made from wood from the battlefield.

In my book "Battle of Gettysburg - The Relics, Artifacts & Souvenirs", I discuss these canes and how young local entrepreneurs would fashion these canes and sell them to the tourists (see pictures). This example is in beautiful condition and would make a great addition to a Gettysburg or Civil War collection.
