Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is a Civil War soldier's Crucifix. It is made of flat brass and measures approximately 1 1/2" x 3/4". During the Civil War many soldiers were religious, especially the Irish, and were known to carry these types of articles. This crucifix was recovered several years ago at a Union camp in Petersburg, Virginia.

There are the typical signs of extended use but overall it is in very nice condition - having an untouched patina. At the top of the crucifix is the small hole which held the string or chain to be worn around the neck. This ring broke which is why the cross was lost. In my new book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I go into more detail about the common soldier and religion. I can supply the name of the digger to the new owner. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
