Civil War Padlock recovered near Fredericksburg, Virginia (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

Civil War Pad Lock. It is made of iron with a brass key plate with the initials “W&C” and measures approximately 4 1/2" x 3". It is frozen in the open position. A lock of this size would probably be used on a limber or ammunition chest, rather than for personal use. There are examples of this type of lock in Civil War Artifacts - A Guide for the Historian, by Howard Crouch. This lock was recovered at Stafford, Virginia just outside of the Fredericksburg Battlefield. This is a nice solid piece and has been coated with a varnish for preservation.
