Cased Telescopic Civil War era cup (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is a Civil War era cased collapsible metal cup. It is in a tin case, measuring 2 ½” x 1". Embossed on the lid is “TELESCOPIC GOBLET / FOR THE VEST POCKET”. In the inner ring is “Warranted / Pure White Metal”. The telescoping cup consists of five pieces. These cups were very popular during the Civil War, mainly because of their size which made it easy to carry in a haversack or backpack. In Time/Life Echoes of Glory - Arms and Equipment of the Union and The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord, there are similar examples of these cups. Also, an example of this cup in the Gettysburg Battlefield Museum (see pictures).

Both the cup and case remain in nice condition, however the case has some white spots which can be cleaned up if desired. The overall piece is very solid and everything operates as intended. It would make a nice addition to a display of a soldiers personal effects.
