Boot/Brogan Heel Plate from Jonesboro Battlefield, GA (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is an iron heel plate for a brogan or boot. It measures 2” x 2” and has sporadic holes for attachment. It was recovered at Pickett’s Mill, Georgia.

After the Union defeat at New Hope Church, Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman ordered Maj. Gen. O.O. Howard to attack Gen. Joseph E. Johnston’ s seemingly exposed right flank. The Confederates were ready for the attack, which did not unfold as planned because supporting troops never appeared. The Rebels repulsed the attack causing high casualties. Estimated Casualties: 2,100 total (US 1,600; CS 500).

This plate has a unique style, not typical of the multiple designs recovered at Civil War sites. There is an example of this heel plate in Stanley Phillips relic book (see pictures). A great personal item to add to your collection.  (FREE SHIPPING)
