Beautiful Confederate Virginia Button (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is an absolutely beautiful coat-size Confederate Virginia button being offered. It is the state seal Virtus slaying the tyrant with sword up, having “VIRGINIA / SIC / SEMPER / TYRANNIS”. The backmark is "WM. H. SMITH & CO / (star) NEW - YORK (star)" rmdc on a stippled field. The area around the perfect stand-up shank is raised.

William H. Smith operated generally from the 1830s to around 1858. W. H. Smith was an outfitter; buttons were generally made by Scovill and distributed before the war to both northern and southern purchasers including the Federal government. It would be referenced as Albert VA4, Tice VA206A7.

As I said, this is a beautiful non-dug button and it would almost be impossible to upgrade it. It has become very difficult to find Confederate buttons in this condition. (SOLD)
