Battle Damaged Triggerguard from Gettysburg (SOLD)

Out of Stock

Product Description

This is truly a unique and one of a kind piece being offered, it is a severely damaged Civil War musket trigger guard. As it stands it measures about 3 ½” x 2 ½”. As you can see in the pictures, it has been almost rolled up. Being made of iron, it would take a great deal of force to do this type of damage (see picture of an undamaged example). My opinion would be that it was struck by an artillery shell or large fragment of a shell. It was recovered years ago by a local resident on the Gettysburg battlefield.

The trigger guard still has one of the sling loops present. A light coat of varnish has been applied for preservation. It remains a solid piece with no flaking or chipping. Like I said, a “one-of-a-kind piece” and from the most historic battlefield in the nation.
