Artillery shell fuse from the Wilderness Battlefield

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is an artillery shell fuse from a Hotchkiss shell. It was found by relic hunter Mike Rasmussen near the Orange Plank Road on the Wilderness Battlefield. Rasmussen noted that, when the relic was recovered, the Orange Plank Road was still gravel; the road was paved in 1982.

The Battle of the Wilderness was fought in Virginia on May 5-6, 1864. It was the beginning of the Overland Campaign, the bloodiest campaign in American history and the turning point in the war in the Eastern Theatre. This piece is in nice solid condition and would make a great addition to any Civil War collection.
