This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War artillery shell fragment. It measures 2 ½” x 2” and is part of the nose section of a 3-inch Parrott/Read shell (see full shell photo for reference). The threads for the fuse are still very visible. It was recovered years ago off of the Taneytown Road in Gettysburg (see period photograph).
It is in very nice condition with no flaking or chipping; a light coat of varnish has been applied for preservation. Take advantage to add a historic piece from the most famous battle in America’s history.
